“Love is a game of vectors and distances,” says Rupert.  He studies the board and moves his piece, and waits for the shapes to change.  “You have to understand where you’re going, and how fast.  You have to know how close you can get.  You gotta know how far.”

Cael points.  “There’s a move -”

“No.  It’s too early.”  Rupert moves his piece in a new direction.  The shapes change, flutter, and then the pattern starts to fall apart.  “You gotta know the angles.”

“But you keep losing.”

“That’s because,” Rupert frowns as the game crumbles away, “love’s a sucker’s game.”
